The KidNET project substantiates WebHare's simplicity

The site of the KidNET projectThe KidNET project is a research project studying the integration of Internet activities into lessons for primary school students age 11-12. One of the project goals was to let the children create a website by themselves, publishing their project results.

WebHare proved to be the perfect application for this project, because the technology wasn't limiting for the children. Or, as stated by the project group:

"Because the technology used is simple we could focus on the more important things: creating the content and the structure of the website."

In the KidNET project, the children regularly looked up existing websites. Sometimes they were given a list of websites to assess and sometimes they used keywords in search engines to choose sites themselves. For either option, they were required to integrate a description of the website and its link in a Microsoft® Word document. These documents were then published on the Internet as a part of their project report.

Dr. H. van der Meij, professor at the University of Twente and project leader of the KidNET project said, "Even those children who could hardly work with Word were able to use WebHare to publish their work in seconds. They were surprised to find out they had created a website."
