A scientific study about user-friendliness and usability

“A Company got in a group of technical engineers to design a laser engraving machine. Unfortunately they forgot to consider the operator. Design consultants found that for someone to use the machine they had to have at least three arms, all of which were three feet long, and that person had to be under three feet tall.”

-Faulkner.

Ever since our inception in 1999, the usability and user-friendliness of our products has been at the heart of everything we do. Every step in the design and development process has been governed by this goal.

The feedback we got from our clients seemed to confirm we were on the right track. Nevertheless, we wanted an independent, scientific study to prove or disprove our assumptions regarding usability of the WebHare system.

Within the context of a master's degree programme thesis, a student, supervised by two professors, deployed a usability study. This study was carried out at the faculty of Behavioural Sciences at the University of Twente in the Netherlands.

The study clearly and unambiguously proved that WebHare is extremely user-friendly. Some of the most important conclusions from the study follow:

·

WebHare has very low entry-level requirements. Even those users with little or no knowledge of computer technologies could perform the same tasks as experienced users in less than two hours.

·

WebHare is very easy to learn. Users who had never worked with WebHare before could perform the same tasks as experienced WebHare users within a two-hour timeframe.

·

End-users love working with WebHare. The study showed users are actively recommending WebHare to others because of its user-friendliness and low entry-level requirements.

·

Basic working knowledge of Microsoft® Word is enough to create and maintain high quality sites.

As might be expected, the study also revealed some points for improvement. These have been implemented and are integrated into the WebHare Application Portal system as of version 2.03.

If you want to read the whole study, please contact us and we will send one to you right away. Please note, currently the only available version is in Dutch.
