Single sign-on
'Single sign-on' is an expression we hear more and more often in the ICT industry. What does it mean and how can it benefit you?
'Single sign-on' means that by identifying yourself (logging in) at one central location, you are immediately granted access to multiple (possibly web-based) systems, such as your CMS, your intranet and your client relation management (CRM) system.
The principle is quite simple: one central system acts as the 'single sign-on server.' This system contains the pertinent information to grant you access to all participating applications, a.k.a. the 'single sign-on clients.'
When you try to use one of these applications, the server will first verify you are who you claim to be. Then, you will be granted access to all systems known by that single sign-on server. This frees you from maintaining user data on separate systems and allows you to manage all authorization data from one central location.
To implement such a system, it is essential that your applications (the single sign-on clients) offer the technical means to make this possible. As well, your network needs a single sign-on server.
WebHare A.P. can do both.
If you already use a single sign-on server, you can easily integrate WebHare into your existing system. And if you are considering using a single sign-on system, you can opt to use WebHare as the central sign-on server.
