Alternative publishing methods

A website is usually published to the World Wide Web and made available to the public via the Internet by a webserver. However, our systems offer many additional ways to publish your data.

Publishing a website to CD

Your site on CDIf your website doesn't contain information that requires a continuous connection to a central server, you may decide to publish your site on a CD. This can be very useful for public events such as exhibitions, conferences and presentations. In this way, you have something tangible to give away and your clients are able to review your information at their convenience. Publishing your website to a CD is also a more practical and secure way to transport information on a laptop. You won't need to find an Internet connection to look up the information that would normally be stored on your intranet. As an example, the University of Twente annually publishes its annual report on CD-ROM, naturally utilizing WebHare for this process.

More than just HTML

Word to Help! You can do more with your website content and Microsoft® Word documents than just publish these as HTML. For instance, WebHare can be used to generate PDF files, or to offer information on your website through a separate XML or RSS channel (RSS is a mechanism used to easily exchange headlines). WebHare's publication engine can also be used to generate Microsoft Help files, which allows you to publish data in an easily searchable format supported by most PCs. In fact, the Windows Help file for WebHare Lite was generated by WebHare Lite itself.

'Static' dynamic applications

Save and easy: your site on your laptop computerDynamic website technologies such as DHTML and JavaScript make it possible to create 'interactive' web applications without the support of a webserver (normally used to implement such functionalities). The data for such applications is entered into a database and then put on a CD by taking a snapshot. This allows the application to be portable. Such static 'interactive' applications also permit you to easily distribute software updates to unconnected PCs and laptops, without requiring the installation of software time after time. This solution proved itself in a Sales Support application created for Siemens A.G.
